WHAT IS RESPONDUS LOCKDOWN BROWSER?

"LockDown Browser is a locked browser for taking tests in Blackboard Learn. It prevents you from printing, copying, going to another URL, or accessing other applications during a test. If a Blackboard test requires that LockDown Browser be used, you will not be able to take the test with a standard web browser. LockDown Browser should only be used for taking Blackboard tests. It should not be used in other areas of Blackboard."

Note: once you begin a test using LockDown Browser, you cannot exit the test or browser until the Submit button for the test has been clicked.

For more information, please see the Student Quick Start Guide (pdf).

You may also wish to view the video Introduction to Respondus LockDown Browser for Students.

The following slides provide a quick look at setup and use of LockDown Browser and Respondus Monitor.

LockDown Browser Installation Instructions

You may see the above instructions, or something similar, in your course; perhaps in the Course Syllabus or Start Here section.

To install LockDown Browser on your computer, you need to use the school-specific SCTC link to begin the process. It is https://download.respondus.com/lockdown/download.php?id=738795795

Note: According to the Respondus website, you may need to loosen the restrictions on your antivirus software or firewall only for the duration of the download and installation. This will be a short duration of time. Afterwards, return your antivirus software and/or firewall to the previous levels. LockDown Browser (and Monitor) will NOT interfere with your antivirus software or firewall during use. Your antivirus software and firewall will not be turned off and will remain active while taking a test.

LockDown Browser Installation Screen

When you click on the installation and download link shown on the previous screen, you will see the above LockDown Browser installation screen. Here, you can see if your computer meets system requirements, watch a video about LockDown Browser (mentioned previously) and Install the Browser.
