Accessing the Online Library Catalog

Accessing the SCTC Library's Online Catalog

The SCTC Library's online catalog (also called Primo) is a great way to search all of the library's resources at once.  A simple search on Primo will show both physical items located in the Griffin, Flint, and Henry campus libraries, as well as online items that can be accessed through GALILEO.

Look for "Online Library Catalog" on the library's homepage

Select "Online Library Catalog" and you will be brought to the catalog page, which will look like this.

There are some helpful tips on the box to the left, and links to library info on the right, but you can simply type your search terms in the search box at the top of the page to get started.

Here, I've searched for "global warming"

1. On the left side of your search results page, you'll see a sidebar of search limiters which you can use to refine your search in a number of ways, such as by format, or even which library location in which the items are available.

2. You'll want to pay attention to the green text at the bottom of each search result, this will tell you where the item can be found.  In this instance, it says "Online access" which means that you can view the item online, in a GALILEO database.  You may also see items that say "available at Griffin library," "available at Flint library," or "available at Henry library."  If you see an item that is available at a library branch on another campus, contact a librarian to ask about having it brought to the library at your home campus library for convenient pickup.

3. These icons will appear at the top right of each search result. they allow you to create a permalink to that search result, email a link to yourself or someone else, or pin the search result.  The three small dots expand a menu of other tools, such as printing the search info or generating a citation for that search result.

Suppose we click on a specific search result:

If you click on an item in your search results, this window will pop open to display more info about that item.  From top to bottom, here you can see the title and info, the availability of the item (in this case, it's a physical book located in the Griffin Campus Library), that same menu of tools including citation and link generators, as well as further details about the item.
